The inspiration came from the propaganda booklets I encountered in my grandparents’ neighbourhood, where these groups spread pseudo-scientific claims to attract followers. Promising supernatural powers and the deification of qigong masters, they have misled and harmed countless people since the late 20th century, and many of them still exist today.
Through research, I identified eight key factors that explain how these groups continue to grow, considering both the organisations themselves and their audiences. Each factor became the basis for a dedicated booklet, forming a series of eight publications.
The visual design draws on the brainwashing and viral aesthetics of cult propaganda, using graphic design, illustration, and layout design to reinforce its propagandistic visual language. Publications serve as the core medium, further extended into products, pop-up booths, and installations.
